From the artist, "Collective impulses to disappear—as one might in Animal Crossing—present themselves in times of disorder. I’m interested in drawing attention to these desires in their most intimate and discrete forms, and in how individual relationships to material things reflect routine anxiety even amidst relative stability. I think of everyday objects as sacred vestiges of a shared reality: they anchor us to a common understanding of the world, grounding our bodies in spaces that are largely influenced by intangible forces, and serving as symbols of comfort and safety. A sense of disembodiment is integral to the uncanny virtual realms of video games, but totems of our shared physical experiences are faithfully rendered here. Our material baggage appears even within those forms of play that propose an alternative to the inhabited world."
