The Red Tulip Glitch Memorial
April 23 - 29, 2020
On the early morning of January 12, 2006, Animal Crossing: Wild World player, Quacks9, received a very memorable gift that would forever change their time and understanding of their town. An unusual blank note along with a beautiful red tulip arrived in their mailbox. Not thinking much of the letter, Quacks decided to plant the tulip. Almost immediately, an impenetrable barrier blocked the exits of their house and Quacks became trapped in what would become known as the Red Tulip Glitch, along with thousands of other Wild World players. The origin of the letter remains a mystery to this day. Nintendo eventually discovered an antidote, and Quacks along with the others returned to their joyous routines. MoCAK is proud to present The Red Tulip Glitch Memorial by Mark Schoening. The site is an homage to the hardship and confusion experienced by those players, with installations both on the lawn of MoCAK and the indoor gallery space. Your ability to view this work now is a testament to the perseverance and dedication of all the inhabitants of Animal Crossing: Wild World. Visitors to this exhibit will receive a packet of red tulip seeds from Joolz to take home with them. Plant these seeds without fear, and remember Quacks9 when they bloom.
