Julia Maiuri (b. 1991, Michigan) lives and works in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Her work bridges painting and film to explore collective memory, harnessing the cinematic cross-dissolve as a motif to challenge traditional notions of time, identity, and spectatorship. Maiuri holds an MFA from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities (2022), and a BFA from Wayne State University, Detroit (2013). Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, with recent solo presentations at Zona Maco, Mexico City (2024); Workplace, London (2023); Make Room, Los Angeles (2023); and Gallery 12.26, Dallas (2022). Maiuri’s work has been featured in group exhibitions that include Martha's, Austin (2024); Fredericks & Freiser, New York City (2023); Klaus von Nichtssagend Gallery, New York City (2022), among others. Her work has been featured in numerous publications including The Creative Independent, ArtReview Magazine, Artsy Editorial, Visual Art Source, and WOPOZI. Maiuri was a 2018 recipient of an Artist Initiative Grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board.
